I think you're the better person here. It's not THAT he did it but rather the EXTREME WAY he did it. His communication skills sound lacking and no doubt you've experienced a few red flags over the last 5 years. Something is definitely troubling him that he can't seem to express to you face-to-face so he's resorted to talking strangely, acting erratically, and by deleting a Facebook account which ends contact not only with you but also with the world.

It's very possible that the demons he's fighting stem from issues he's never shared with you.

If he's open to talking openly, hear what he has to say. If he's not going to help himself, it's probably going to be a rocky ride if nothing changes and you get back together with him. Putting a band aid on another person's open wound won't help in the healing process.
