They are just as safe as using Facebook is. They use Facebook plug-ins such as "like boxes", "comments" etc. These pages are connected to Facebook through something called Open Graph protocol. You can read more about social plug-ins here: developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins. I personally use a few of those "liking" websites when I want to see what the social trends are. My favourite ones are: FBCatalog.com and Likeulous.info
