what brand of laptop should i buy?

My uncle and I are going to Best Buy and look at their selection of laptop computers. We can only afford approximately three hundred dollars give or take ten or twenty dollars depending on the amount of memory and screen size, etc. We might get a refurbished laptop computer because they are cheaper than the brand new stuff. What brand would you recommend? My uncle likes Hewlett Packard but I am open to other suggestions. Thank you.
