The jasmine flower is not banned in China. Jasmine tea is quite popular. When I left China in 2012, there was concern over the word "jasmine" being used as a code word for revolution (from within China's borders, not from outsiders as another answer has indicated) and the word was censored in social media.
There was also censorship over the word for "river" (jiang) because it was being rumored that Jiang Zemin was either dead or very ill. Censorship comes and goes with various words in China. |
