I think the college atmosphere is getting to him. his friends are probably not in committed relationships so that surrounding has influenced him to have something he didn't have. he clearly still cares about you since he wants to stay friends. just don't become his booty call or fallback when he doesn't have someone. be his friend and don't be afraid to remind him of all the good times you shared together. be strong and independent and you'll push your luck into showing him what a great girl you are to have. it's probably not gonna happen immediately, it might take a long time and it may never happen. but let yourself be the best you you can be, and he'll see what he's missing out on.
