Why do some people attack the crusades ?

They backfired in many ways. The Crusaders and their behavior actually weakened the already-wobbly Byzantine Empire, for example. The Byzantines had to deal with crazy European mercenaries running around as well as the Islamic threat. It was a mess. Byzantium eventually collapsed, partly due to this.
