If you are paying for hosting, the service you use has no effect on your ability to sell ad space. Realistically getting traffic should be your first and foremost goal, if the site starts getting popular with more than 100 real visitors a week you might start thinking about advertising. The most popular passive ad system for small sites is Google's Adsense, to make the min $100 payout you need perhaps 10,000 visitors, the numbers vary considerably depending on the commercial slant of your site.
You can make money on some free hosts as well, Google setup their Blogger.com mainly to get more sites that might choose to run Adsense ads, there are over 1.2 Billion pages hosted there, unlike most 'free' hosts there are no paid upgrades, you can add a custom domain name, but you can get it anywhere (I would not register a name through Google) The free host Wordpress.com allow you to get acquainted with the industry standard Blog platform, if you get something going (traffic wise) you can move to a paid host with an easy full version wordpress installer. They charge for putting ads on a Wordpress.com site. |
