The Yahoo directory was once a big seach rank booster, before there were countless alternatives like social sites, there are signs of it being phased down. It's not strictly a case of numbers, beside the page rank where your link appears, some sites, like a human reviewed directory garner more search engine respect are are more powerful rank builders than forum posts or answers. Some believe noFollow might help overall site authority, some are needed in the mix for more natural link profiles but it's not worth creating tons of Answers links, due to the diminishing returns from multiple links on a single site. Answers links have to be near the bottom of junk links along with most blog comments, forum posts and junk directories. Answers also lacks anchor text, which used sparingly strengthens keyword ranking.
DMOZ is s powerful rank driver that is free to submit to, approval can take months or forever, it's the human review used on that site that makes it far more powerful than the countless auto approval India business directories. Some of the few paid directories that are respected by search engines and worthwhile investments for major operators: Joeant.com pr6 bestoftheweb.com pr6 gimpsey.com pr5 GoGuides.com pr5 Business.com pr7 perhaps if currently providing doFollow, feeds other biz searches. $299.00 per year, they sell ads as well. A general rule that often is proven accurate: the easier a link is to get, the less valuable it will be, spam robots generating thousands of links a day tend to further dilute the value of these easy sources.
