Is selling on craigslist safe?

Ok so I have this Android Tablet that I won at school (Legally Ok) but honestly I don't really want it, it's a Trio Stealth Pro and I Rooted the Google Play store on it and I fixed it up all nicely and its a pretty decent tablet but I don't really find use in it for me and its really just there collecting dust, I want to sell it on craigslist for $150 and use the money to help buy myself a 3DS XL to play Pokemon X when it comes out (And today conveniently Nintendo brought out a Pure Black 3DS XL in America and target is selling it for $175 (original price is $199) and it looks so nice and formal but I asked my dad for advice and he says that what I'm trying to do is like a Double Edged sword cuz there's always a possibility I might get scammed when selling it, I know craigslist is more of an Ad Posting site but with eBay you gotta pay to post your products and you still gotta pay for Shipping and Handling
So is it really safe to sell stuff on craigslist or can anyone give me some good tips for selling it if I do ultimately, I live in the Fort Worth Texas area btw
