Quality content first and foremost. If your site has nothing important to say or offer, no amount of SEO will help. Getting traffic to your site is building a relationship with your target audience. If your content is banal, unprofessional, less than useful, or completely off-base, no one will care if they end up at your site, and they'll just leave never to return.
