Advise for new Roleplayer?

I've just started Roleplaying and I need some advise. What kind of roleplays are good? Which ones are bad? What are some red flags that a roleplay is bad? How is a Roleplay OC different from a fanfiction OC? Whats your worst Roleplay experience? I need information like that.
I already know about god-moding, auto, and the fact that you can't have two characters have romance without the owner of the other characters permission.
