There is no such thing as Search Media Optimization. If you've heard the term SMO it stands for Social Media Optimization or Search Marketing Optimization.

Social Media Optimization has to do with optimizing your social profiles such as Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook, Flickr etc. so that each profile is complete with benefit rich data about who you are and what you offer and preferably there's a presence of keywords that relate to your website or main presence on the web.

Search Marketing Optimization has to do with optimizing all online marketing campaigns so that each advertising method runs smoothly and is generating the most traffic and ROI. This would include optimizing your PPC accounts, tweaking Facebook Ads, optimizing banner and display adverts etc.
