Is it safe to uninstall Windows Internet Explorer 8 ?

I opened Control Panel and then I opened Programs and Features. When I was in the dialog box of Programs, I clicked View Installed Updates on the left panel. When I opened the Updates list, I searched in the Search box for Internet Explorer and I saw there was an update for Internet Explorer 9 last year and Internet Explorer 8 two years ago. Now. I want to keep only Internet Explorer 9.
If I uninstall Internet Explorer 8, is it going to damage the MAIL settings or other settings I have on Internet Explorer 8 ? Thank You . I have Windows Vista
