How to set up realistic goals for a new website?

Unless you rely only on paid traffic it's impossible for a new site to forecast the number of visitors. The Google is quite unpredictable.
Same with social media. You can do your best but unless you actually do it you won't know how many people will come.
You can look at this thing this way: figure out how much money you could spend on paid traffic. Then, using the common conversion rates in your industry you could try to figure out the amount of visitors and buyers.
