Should I send a Facebook friend request to my friend?

my exchange friend and i were once facebook friends. lets just say we were good friends (we spoke a lot for 5 months) and if he came to school in the united states, he would have been like a brother to me. i helped him the best i could. once summer started, he just suddenly stopped answering my messages. i would continue to send like one or two messages but he wouldnt respond, but i know he saw them. i felt a little hurt and used since i want to why hes ignoring me. i realised he wasnt coming but he didnt tell me, i just assumed. in the past 3 weeks, he started deleting all of facebook friends (i survived his massive facebook friend cut) and then he changed his facebook name. one day after, he deleted his facebook. i knew he was gonna come back to facebook but i didnt know when. i went on his moms facebook page last night, and noticed she had added a friend. i looked and it was my friend but i could tell he made it a little difficult to search for him. i checked his facebook of course and he has only 3 friends at the moment. should i wait a few weeks to send him a request? i just miss him (no homo) since he was just really awesome and i dont want him to forget me, but at the same time, i dont want him to think im a creep either bc he would prolly want to know how i found him.
