Building website but confused?

Almost nobody uses their own computer as a file server, it can be done, probably running under Linux, almost everyone is using a web hosting service with computers connected to a fast internet connection, no doubt you know all that, unless you picture a future as a web host administrator, I would pass on running a server.
A typical $8/mp paid hosting account is on a shared server with 50 or more different site accounts, you can crate mySql databases and run PHP, etc. scripts that you upload to your account via ftp. Certain processor intensive applications could get your account shutdown for taxing the resources.

One can get a dedicated server that you remotely access and use as you want for a few hundred dollars a month, Virtual Private Servers act much like a dedicated server, giving your own memory partition with better security than a basic shard server.
