Your forgetting one key thing. Even if you setup a static IP which you are doing there you still need to authenticate with the router. You need to know the password. No if, and's or butt's. No password, no connection.

You can do the same thing on the apple device too and make it static but at some point it needs to authenticate otherwise what good would password protection be if you can simply set a static IP? I seriously doubt you did that with the Kindle w/o a password. Impossible
