Is my boyfriend jealous, possessive or insecure?

Is my boyfriend jealous, possessive or insecure?
I have been dating my boyfriend for three months.

We usually text all day, starting by saying good morning, until we go to sleep at night. He's always been very sensitive about his emotions: telling me he loves me, how lucky he is, how special I am to him, how gorgeous I am, how he wishes he could be there to cuddle me etc. Valentines Day, he sent me roses, a bottle of wine, a teddy and macaroons. He never lets me pay, saying he feels embarrassed if I do.

He likes to pick me up from work a couple of nights a week - he drives a nice BMW - and he always opens and closes the door for me. However, I noticed that if someone tries to cut him up on the road, he gets quite angry and stares them out/drives aggressively, making comments about them.

He always holds my hand when we are together in public and will say, "that guy was staring at you" or sometimes shout out, "are you looking at my girl?" to guys who are looking. Protective, but maybe a little aggressive? When we were in the nightclub last week, he had his arm around my waist most of the time we were standing together, and I wasn't looking at other men.

If I mention that another guy complimented me, he says little things like, "if he's not careful, I will have a word with him" and compliments me again. On Facebook, if another guy compliments me, he will write something like, "beautiful babe, I love you!"

Is he insecure, or is he just being a loving, protective boyfriend? I've never given him reason to worry.
