Has anyone been to the "Deep Webs"?

Okay, so I've watched commentaries and read articles, including the famous forum post: http://i.imgur.com/Xq7ih.png, but seeing as how there is no other evidence of the deep web, that can be easily searched (for good reason). I just want to know who has been on it before, and if the stories are true. I want to know your experiences in the "dark net". Because, I for one, am too scared to browse Tor, fearing hackers and Federal government alike. I mean,The fear of accidentally going to child pornography, drug dealing, mutilation, or worse is just scary.

But I am still curious to what's actually on these unindexed sites. From what I know, many of these sites have been shut down by the government, so what's left?



I guess, what I am trying to ask, in all seriousness, is what have been some people's experiences while browsing the deep web? I have minimal intentions of using Tor, for valid reasons, as mentioned before. I don't want to come across illicit, horrible events, and then have the NSA, FBI, CIA, etc. at my front door (proxies and vpn aren't 100% protection), so can anybody tell their views?
