Facebook: getting Facebook to take down a community page for infringing on your copyright protected material?
Has anyone heard of DMCA? Digital Millennium Copyright Act? It protects copyright, it's a US law, and Facebook are US based. Since 2010 we've run a free, non-commercial service in Ireland, in 2011 our idea was copied and some folks set up a commercial version. Parts of our original copyrighted text was then simply copied and pasted onto the other services website, a website which they link to from their FB page. Can we request that FB take down their page or the link on their page which links to our copyright protected material? Thanks.
We have already sent Google a DMCA Take Down notice and they have done so, removing the offending url containing our copyright infringed material from Google search results. We're unsure how pro-active Facebook are however? Thanks.
Thanks, we've just sent them a DMCA take down request, will see if they feel our case is strong enough to warrant it. Should be.
