It's very important to update your post with quality and fresh content. If your blog will have fresh content, it will be crawled by the google. Again, use proper title and html tags for your blog, keep attractive design. Once you are done with that, use certain off page optimization techniques like social bookmarking, blog commenting related to your niche, etc in higher PR sites. This will make the people know about your blog and thus readers will increase.
