how to uninstall tool bars on my browser?

She didn't download GIMP. She downloaded something that is definitely not GIMP.

The real GIMP available only at http://www.gimp.org has no tool bars or anything nasty. It's legitimate free image editing software, which is 100% safe.

Use your contol panel > programs - to uninstall any toolbars if you can see them listed. Uninstall the rogue copy of GIMP while you are there, if it's listed.

Do you have antivirus software? If so run that. Also get Malwarebytes free edition here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/free/ - run a scan with that too.

To remove the tool bars from the browser completely, depending on which browser you are using, you should be able to reset it. Follow the instructions here: http://en.kioskea.net/faq/6361-reset-you...-settings.

When you are finished run your antivirus and malware bytes a second time, to make sure everything is gone.

Tell your girlfriend to be careful in future, and to make sure she is downloading any software (not just GIMP) from the official website which distributes the software. The problem is that there are lots of bad websites out there that offer rogue versions of legitimate software - the internet is a dangerous place
