Peter,
Before you go and investigate buying a new wireless router I would try the following. Sometime just moving the WiFi router a foot or two higher cures a lot of problems. If you have already tried this, move the router a foot or so in a horizontal direction. Generally WiFi routers in homes should be setup about 6 to 7 feet above the floor for best results. These two changes sometimes makes a big improvement. If you have Stone walls in your home or aluminum studs in the walls it may not help at all. In this case you may need a WiFi range extender. This range extender can be setup as a wireless unit or get it's signal over Ethernet cable. I only use Netgear WiFi routers. I have tried almost all the rest and replaced many newer "N" WiFi routers that were faulty in recent years. I use a model Netgear WNR3500v2 and get great results. I install broken WiFi routers for my friends with Netgear WNR3500L and they work fine, are easy to set up and the price is right. Ads |
