1 - there are NO US Army personnel in Nigeria. Period. The ONLY US military in Nigeria are the few Marine Guards stationed at the US Embassy in Abuja and the US Consulate in Lagos and a single call to the Embassy will verify he is NOT stationed there
2 - If he were really in the serving Army overseas, he would NEVER be using a free Yahoo or Live.com address that is unsecured. He would be using a secure .mil address. So if he's in the Army, his emails would be from either @mail.mil or @us.army.mil. If he's in the Marines it would be from @marines.mil. The fact he's not using a .mil address means he's NOT in the military
3 - It's VERY easy to tell a fake Facebook account. If he is real, he will have more than 200 friends and almost all of them will be other men in the military along with his family members. Scammers have mostly female friends (usually in their mid-30s and older) and the few male friends they have are from third world countries. Scammers only post pictures themselves - real people are tagged in more photos and posts that are posted by others than they have posted themselves. So if he only posts his own photos, he's a scammer. If he is posted in loads of photos posted by his friends, he's real. Also real people will have friends constantly posting things on their wall "Did you get to see the hockey game yesterday" or "Are you excited about baseball season starting soon" or "Can't wait until you are back home in March". Scammers only post things themselves or have women commenting on their photos.

But the fact he said he is in Nigeria is all you need to know you are dealing with a scammer. You need to cut off all contact and report to the sites where his profiles are posted. Also report to the FBIs IC3 division http://fakewarriors.org/
