Go to Google, type in the keyword you want to rank for and check out what the top 10 websites are doing. Pay special attention to the #1 site. How long are their articles, how many times do they use the keyword, are they using pictures and images? Then the most important thing you need to figure out is where they're getting backlinks from. Links are the #1 factor that will determine your success. Use the Open Site Explorer to check (Google "Open Site Explorer" to find it).
