Is it even worth being friends with these people?

If every they find something to bicker about when you contact them, then no; it's not worth socializing with someone who is going to exhaust you with negativity. It's just not worth it. Life is already hard enough, and it's worse to have people in your life that do not want to do anything productive than to argue with you.

Sometimes there will just be those people that can't help but focus on such negativity. They don't know how to look on the bright side or avoid ranting. I would just stop contacting or talking to them. You've tried changing the subject and it's like it just bounces off them. Some people are linked to drama. You don't need that.

If they asks you why you haven't been around, tell them the truth. That is the BEST time to tell them since they are asking. Just tell them that every time you talk to them that something is always brought up to complain about. You can never talk about anything that doesn't make you walk on egg shells. Tell them you're tired of the drama, tired of the intensity and you're just finally exhausted. If they can't handle that and start bickering, Just say "You just proved my point. I don't like this and refuse to be apart of it."

Don't EVER settle for anything. If you had to come here asking us about it, then something is wrong and something about it is making you uncomfortable.
