For facebook notification you should or can stop it from facebook>> settings >> Privacy settings and stop sending notifications. and other promotional mails you can either unsubscribe them or mark as spam. and in gmail they have added another option that divides the promotional options and social options and inbox so you can update to new gmail platform.
