Why is internet speed (download+upload) SO TERRIBLE (1 mb per second)?

1 - it's no good running speedtest if you are currently downloading - it'll give false reading

2 - if you sign up (free) to speedtest you can monitor you speed several times a day for 1 week and compare them with others from same provider and / or country etc

3 - after 1 week of results you can challenge your provider depending on t's & c's

in UK most providers always offer up to ?? mbps speed so they can supply lower speeds but some are now (because of competition and complaints) now giving what you pay for (I'm pay for 30mbps and getting 32mbps )
