Is it justified to celebrate one's biological traits - for example International Women's Day?

The day is celebrating the history of the conflict. We wouldn't celebrate it if the XY's hadn't treated the XX's badly in the past, just like all the race related days. The whole point is to acknowledge how far society has come together, in thanks of the women AND men who helped make out society more equal.
