Is there a way to remove a previous facebook profile photo?

Yes, of course!
1. Click your current profile picture
2. Scroll or click until you find the profile picture you wish to delete
3. Top right hand corner there is a settings icon by your name
4. When clicked you will see a menu click 'Only Me' with the lock symbol.
5. This will block it from being seen by other, although you will see it

Or to completely delete it:
1. Go to photos
2. Click albums
3. Find the 'Profile Pictures' album
4. Hover the mouse over picture, you will see a pencil icon. Click it.
5. Click 'Delete this Photo'
6. Click Confirm
