Facebook is still free, hoax fools users?
SAN FRANCISCO (KFSN) -- There's a new rumor going around Facebook that the social media website will start charging users.
The rumor began shortly after Facebook announced it will redesign its profile to include a timeline in place of a news feed on a user's profile. One rumor says Facebook will start charging for the new profile changes; another describes a tiered Facebook pay plan. According to the website Mashable, the rumors are not true. Facebook has continuously said that their website will be free in the future, adding a quote on their front page that reads, "It's free and always will be." This is not the first time Facebook has fallen victim to a pay rumor. Suggestions that the website would start charging have been collected as far back as December 2009, usually around the time Facebook launches a new feature or redesigns a small aspect of the website. However, this new rumor is spreading fast thanks in large to Facebook's complete redesign of its users profiles. A Facebook employee said the new timeline feature is available now to developers and will be rolled out to all users within the next two to three weeks -- for free. Facebook has approximately 800 million registered users. Ads |
