How to get more followers on tumblr?

Deleting the blog due to the lack of followers isn't going to work...

I get followers by posting content that people are interested in.

Sometimes a post won't be noticed for months. I had a post that accumulated a hundred + notes over a weekend. It had a single like for 7 or 8 months... before being discovered.

Sometimes a useful post will pick up likes and reblogs slowly.

I post a lot of pictures from my own garden. some people like that sort of thing.

Back when I was discovering how to recode the default template, I picked up followers who were interested in fixing up their own themes.

The best way to make your blog appealing... is to post unique content.
Do you write? Draw? take pictures? Create gifs?

Any of these will attract a following.
I doubt that you will ever get "tumblr famous" by reblogging, and following everybody.

I follow a fair number of people, who post original content in my areas of interest.
My dashboard is full of posts of gardens, wildlife, and hippies... and some coding, some writing, but I avoid following the people that reblog from the people that I follow, so that I don't get a dash full of repeat posts...

If your main reason for having a tumblr is to have some kind of popularity contest, you aren't doing it right.
