If I were you, I would go for it because it sounds like there is massive potential that he does like you. If he is staring at you and joking around with you, that is a sign. It's a good sign because if it doesn't work out. He could always be a good friend. Friends are more valuable at times than a significant other for the fact that they will always be there compared to the significant other that could leave after a couple of months or years even.
