One forum thread about 16 months ago had 65% positive reports, the worst:

--------
"I`ve joined voltrank 1 week ago and after a couple of days, my MFA websites were sandboxed...

Thanks very much voltrank. Be Aware, cuz the only linkbuilding i did on this websites was article submission so it`s definitely voltrank`s fault.

Nothing is for free... I guess i`ve learned that now. "

One positive on this authority SEWO site

If this uses a script inserted into your site, there's an assumption that spiders don't pare or execute scripts, but if they send out a specialist it can probably easily detect the signature of the exchange script.

After having slacked off a few years ago Google has been demonstrating a renewed interest in detecting unnatural links. It's been assumed by many that it's very difficult to be penalized for backlinks, rather some backlinks are simply discredited, on the assumption that allowances are made for the possibility of competitors sabotaging your ranking. Some people employing blog network article links are now receiveing "unnatural links warning" from Google, suggesting one submits a reconsideration request after "rectifying" the issue.
