why some local Washington residents do not like Canadian shoppers?
hey... I live really close to the border of Washington State. Personally, I am a Chinese Canadian.. and there are a lot of us Asians and East Indian Canadians love to cross to the border shop in Bellingham, WA on the weekend. Because sales tax is lower there and there is no carbon tax. Most of middle income to low income families simply want to save a few dollars. I think minorities like us are probably very standout in a very white city like Bellingham.
There is a fb page.. "Bellingham Costco needs a special time just for Americans" https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bellingha...9958200765 based on my understanding, WA is supposed to be a really liberal and progressive state. why do they dislike us.. there are so many comments regarding east indians people, which i thought it was quite racist. the fact is, it's quicker for us to go to Bellingham at the border than to Vancouver,B.C due to the congested freeway. but is that true that liberal state like WA, some people are not very "progressive"? at least only progressive to white people. i am sorry.. if i sound offensive. sorry.. low income families like us just have no choice, but are forced to shop in the US for milk, vegetable, fruit and gas. it's not like i do not support our local economy. but it's just we are a working class. i can't lower my living standard to pay for environmental taxes and fees. I could fill my tank for 5.00/gallon, then i have less retirement saving; or I can go to Washington State for 3.50/gallon. it's only 20 mins drive.. compered with i have to drive to Vancouver for work, 1 hour. frequent travelers like us have a NEXUS pass. crossing border under 1 mins.. special ID with radio frequency chip in your pocket.. no need to stop, unless the officer wants to question you.. why you people think it takes forever to cross on both sides? most of people like us do not need to stop at the border. Locals have a special lane.... I always thought Canadians and Americans are supposed to be pretty close.. two countries share the longest border and we shouldn't be treated like really outsiders.. we have a lot of American visitors here too. we never say anything like this park is for Canadian only. Like I cross border at least 100 times. never had rude treatment by feds.. Ads |
