Most 1970's bikes are not collectible despite what most people think. They were mass produced and there's one in every third garage on every street almost. The real bucks come with 1930's bikes and earlier. Also depends what you have, European mid to high end road bikes of the period are still quite sought after and can bring in some hefty dollars (or pounds in your case). If it's a standard 3 speed cruiser or similar it's not worth that much and prices for those fluctuates depending on where you live (big city, countryside, suburb, etc). With standard 70's bikes the difference between a restored - mint or near mint bike and one that's been on the road is quite minimal and it's usually not worth spending cash to 'restore' them as you won't see your money back.
