Is it illegal to take pictures from facebook and say they are yours?

Unless you file a copyright or file some kind of intellectual property claim, taking them is not illegal nor against Facebook rules. And how would you take up a legal issue with someone who might live half way around the world? In a country with totally different laws?

Besides it being possibly immoral or "not very nice" people "borrow" stuff on the Internet everyday. But even large corporations have to defend their own copyrights, the police don't do it for them. If the other person had not agreed to give you credit or take them down, you could have complained to Facebook (who may or may not have responded) or you may have had to go to court to prove your ownership.

And just saying it is yours is not proof.
