Really odd computer problems! Help!?

Windows 8 is the operating system.

You mention that it is a Dell laptop - but not the make (Inspiron, Latitude, etc.) or the model (usually has a letter followed by some numbers).

Go to the start button, click on Computer/My Computer, right click on the background of the window that opens up and find out what the computer's make & model are.

You can also check the hardware diagnostics at http://www.dell.com/support/diagnostics/us/en/19/ to see what is going on inside the case....
