The ads you see in the sponsored results on Google are bidding on keywords on Google AdWords (their PPC platform). The price you bid depends on a range of factors including relevance and competitiveness. This could be anything from £0.01 to £15.00 per click.

The key is to develop a highly targeted PPC campaign formed with tightly grouped keywords within each ad group to ensure throughout your campaign, it is highly relevant to the searcher and the search term used. The more relevant your campaign is, the lower CPC (cost per click) you will pay and the higher position your ad will appear in the sponsored results. This being measured and determined by an internal formula Google calls Quality Score.

There are a number of web based tools that will predict your average CPC for keywords on Google AdWords but truth is, none of them are accurate.

Let me know if you would like any further information.
