Try making it a bit more personal, and make sure you send her a private message instead of putting it on her wall. When I say personal I mean by saying for example this "Hey --------- I was wondering if maybe sometime we could hang out (explain what are your plans,) I'd really like to get to know you a bit more." Hope this helps and good luck!

By the way if she is the type of girl who is up front than do it in person but if you don't really have a chance of seeing her face to face than facebook is your answer unless you have her number.
