a torrent is a file, video etc. The seed is another person who has it already downloaded to their hard drive, then shares their internet connection so it can be downloaded by others. If 1000 people are seeding a file, then when you download it you are downloading little segments of that file from 1000 people, this makes it much faster and much more reliable than just downloading from one source that may or may not work.
