There is alot of work around SEO for websites, it can't just happen overnight.

Careful placement of meta-tags within the site you want promoted, plus tip-top xhtml w3c validity will help as a start, then you move onto the more advanced SEO such as bot-correction, multi-tracked url streams and of course adwords.
