Hello

One way to test if a Wordpress theme will perform well, is to run the sample site through a page tester, like http://www.webpagetest.org/, before buying it.

I suggest you run the site you are considering through that testing engine to see if it scores well. The test will test for page speed, page errors and more, all of which aid in the success of a site. It's not a 'crystal ball' but it can help you avoid poorly-designed Wordpress themes.
