Here are some ideas that might get him to contact you first:
1. Post a photo from your class 4 years ago, if he's in it you can tag him and he might talk to you about it.
2. If you remember any of his inerests like a song or something, share it and see if he comments, then you can take it to chat.
3. Start a group chat and talk about the ol days and what not, then talk to him mostly and just take it to private chat, it won't seem desperate because you two were already talking amongst other people (doesn't make it obvious that you only want to talk to him).

Another idea for when you are talking to him would be to bring up the time that you liked eachother and ask if his friends were right to say he liked you. this will bring tons of memories flooding back to him and he will probably think about it for the day, then he might ask to meet up ans catch up!
