Setting up Asus DSL-N66U router confusion?
Hi, I bought a asus dsl-n66u yesterday to replace my technicolor router provided by plusnet fibe. Im having difficulty setting up this
because im not sure if i need to have the bt open rech fibre modem attached or not. I tryed to connect the open reach modem via the lan into the back of the asus blue "Ethernet WAN" port. Then a little light on the port comes on saying that they are both connected. I'm confused because in the quick start guide its says "before setting up your network, ensure that the DSL LED indicator is a solid light." This has puzzled me as because ive set it so the DSL line is going into the BT open rech modem and that the modem is connceted to the dsl-n66u via the lan ethernet port. The router does not seem to have any sort of connection to the internet through the open reach modem. There is also no light flashing so i'm assuming that the router and the modem are not talking to one and other. I then searched the web for more information. I then found out that the router has a built in modem so i then went back and connceted the DSL line streight from the wall socket into the "DSL WAN" port on the back of the router. I switched the router on and the green DSL indicator started to flash for abit on the router and then stayed solid green. I then went on the routers interface and it did say that the DSL link is "up" but there was still no internet/no responce from the server. I checked my username and password for plusnet and it was all fine. i was putting them details in correctly. I did notice however when i tried to select my county to "united Kingdom" and to find my ISP. All there was in the list was BT Infinity. I then went and did more research on the web to find out that i needed to upgrade the routers firmware to version 1.0.6.7. I then updated it's firmware and i then had Plus net fibre in the list. Hoping that this would have solved my problems i went back to type in the username and password for my ISP to try to connect again but it didn't. quick question Do i have to have the DSL connected streight into the router or can i have it so the DSL is connected into the Bt open reach fibre modem then into the router? will it still gain internet access through the open reach modem? I have also enabled the transfer mode to "ethernet Wan" hoping it would receive its internet access through the "Ethernet WAN" port rather than the "DSL WAN" port. Please Help. I really need to get this router connected to the internet as soon as possible. Thankyou for your time. Ads |
