Look, if all that you're saying is true and you feel that you're not being treated like an equal member of the group just for being prettier or smarter (though I believe these things are a matter of perception), speak to your friends about their behaviour towards you. In the deal you may lose 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or all 8 of them but you'll have the satisfaction of having got your point across to them that you are not to be trampled over. Maybe there is a misunderstanding between any or all of you on the dynamics of the group, which needs to be brought out in the open and resolved. I cannot tell you (with certainty) what the problem is.
My advice to you would be to act naturally. Don't underplay your positive qualities and don't exaggerate them either. If your friends see that you're comfortable in your own skin, they'll change their attitude towards you as well. Right now they probably feel that you are underplaying your winning qualities as a sort of "charity" to your average looking friends. It almost seems like an instance of "humblebragging" on your part. No person really likes feeling like he/she has been pitied. This should logically explain your friends' behaviour towards you. If you change your attitude and public image and still experience this sort of treatment, you'll have to do the right thing and find a new set of friends. |
