have old computer, curr internet is from cable co, using modem with wifi-have wirless usb adapter but does not work well

Get an Ethernet cable. They sell them at just about any retailer. On the back of your desktop or side of your laptop there will be a place where this cable will fit there will also be a spot on the back of your modem or router where the other end of this cable will fit. If you have none of these things talk to your local Internet Service provider and they should be able to furnish you with the equipment and help you set it up (for money of course)
