I'm in love with a dead man?

Old Hollywood is alluring because Twitter and TMZ and the fact that everyone has a camera has killed the illusion of the modern "movie star." Old Hollywood stars were not tracked on a daily basis and had all their public escapades be frontline news, thus people saw them as perfectly manufactured quasi-idols and not normal people...which is why you still see him as the perfect symbol of manhood.
However, that symbol is not real, so when we live now in a world where we know everything about everyone it is impossible for another man to live up to that idealized symbol.

George was a real person and I'm sure he did regular man stuff that would be fodder for the tabloids just like every male actor today (sorry to burst your bubble), so it is important to remember that when comparing the guys you are meeting today to him. There is nothing wrong with setting your aim high, just be realistic of your expectations and make sure it is a fair and attainable image for the guy to uphold...knowing full well they can't be a perfect "Old Hollywood" star.

Hope that helps.
