Wondering if chrome was previously installed? Download revo uninstaller, run it, see if there is a google chrome icon listed, uninstall using 'advanced', make sure to check mark and delete everything that comes up. You can also use ccleaner to clean your registry. Then install chrome again.
Another way to install chrome which might go around the problem is to go to ninite.com, check mark Chrome at top of list, click 'get installer' at bottom, and run the installer which will install chrome for you. Finally, If none of these things work, use chrome canary for now. Its cutting edge but I've never had any problems with it.
