Need help connecting computer to internet?

We've always used a wireless usb modem. That was simple plug in and connect. We just went to Ethernet. I got it all set up once, I think I had to change the connection from limited connection. How I did that I don't know. The modem just broke, we got a new one requiring a new network name and password. With new log in info, all wireless devices that we use needed to pretty much forget the old one and make a connecTion with the new one. Would that be the case for the wired computer? It's Windows seven I set up a new connection but when I try to connect I get the 651 error. The modems fine I'm using it now to type
